MA Chidambaram Stadium Pitch Report for CSK vs MI IPL 2023 Match in Chennai

Chennai Super Kings will lock horns against Mumbai Indians in the 49th league match of Indian Premier League at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium. This game is called the El-Classico of IPL and we can expect a thrilling encounter between both sides.

Chennai played really well against Lucknow Super Giants in their last match but rain ruined the day for them. The batters of the side have been excellent for them and they will again enjoy their home conditions. Deepak Chahar made his return in the last match and will carry the responsibility to lead the pace attack of the side.

The batters of Mumbai Indians are in thrilling form at the moment. It is certain that this team will prefer chasing in this match as well. If Jofra Archer can find his rhythm, it will be excellent for Mumbai. Rohit Sharma’s form is a bit of concern and the hitman would want to contribute with the bat.

The pitch in Chennai has certainly surprised everyone this season. This track always used to be on the slower side but the story has been completely different this time around. Out of four matches played here, three of them have been high-scoring. The average first innings score here has been 182 runs in IPL 2023.

“Top-order batters need to be aware of taking the powerplay on. Have to take risks. Will get harder and harder later on. 180 will be a very good score in a day game here,” Aaron Finch said in his pitch assessment on Star Sports ahead of the CSK vs PBKS match.

This is a day game so we can expect a drier surface. The batters would look to capitalize on the powerplay as the spinners can have an impact in the middle overs. There has been an even amount of bounce here and the batters can play their shots properly.

The outfield is quite fast here, whereas the boundaries are also not that huge. Both these factors will definitely favour the batters. Being an afternoon match, batting first and setting up a good total won’t be a bad idea after winning the toss.
