"My favourite player": Abrar Ahmed remarks Ben Stokes as his favourite wicket after bagging a 7-wicket haul for Pakistan on Test debut in Multan

It was a day to remember for the 24-year-old leg-break bowler Abrar Ahmed, as he became only the third bowler to take a seven-wicket haul on Test debut for Pakistan.

During the second Test match of England’s tour of Pakistan at the Multan Cricket Stadium, Abrar, with the assistance of his remarkable variations in the Googly, flipper, or the classic leg breaks, got rid of each of the top-7 English batters to ultimately bundle them out on 281.

The debutant finished the innings with figures of 22-1-114-7, as he managed to put a leash on the ever-aggressive England batters, with Pakistan taking the field with a relatively weaker bowling attack sans the pacers in Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah.

Dismissing Zak Crawley (19) on the very first Over of his international career, Abrar also became the first Pakistani Test bowler to scalp five wickets in the first session of a Test debut.

At Stumps on ‘Day 1’, skipper Babar Azam and Saud Shakeel took the Pakistan score to 107/2, trailing only by 174 runs to the England first innings total.

Abrar Ahmed remarks Ben Stokes as his favourite player

During an interaction with former England skipper Nasser Hussain for the Sky Sports, Abrar Ahmed remarked England skipper Ben Stokes as his favourite player, while also managing to get his wicket with an absolute jaffa of a delivery.

He bowled a Googly which pitched on leg-stump, to which Stokes prodded forward to play the forward defence, only for the ball to spin past his bat’s outside edge and disturb the off-stump. Stokes was also stunned by the quality of the delivery, as he was left slack-jawed while staring at the non-striker Will Jacks before heading towards the dressing room.

“My favourite wicket is Ben Stokes – my favourite player,” remarked Abrar upon being asked to name his favourite wicket of the day, by Nasser Hussain.

He further exclaimed that he had never thought that he would bag five opposition wickets before Lunch on his Test debut.
