During the second T20I of the ongoing Bangladesh’s tour of New Zealand in Napier, rain has played spoilsport a couple of times to disrupt the home team’s batting innings.
It was visiting captain Mahmudullah who had won the toss and invited New Zealand in to bat. Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, the hosts were scoring at almost 10 runs per over when players had to return to their respective dressing rooms for the second time tonight.
It was New Zealand batsman Glenn Phillips’ second T20I half-century which powered his team to 173/5 in 17.5 overs. Considering if New Zealand’s innings doesn’t resume due to the weather conditions, Bangladesh will have to chase 179 runs in 17 overs (provided no more overs are lost) in order to win the match.

Following a rain break in the 13th over, the match has been stopped yet again due to another similar break in the 18th over of the first innings.
According to AccuWeather, tonight’s weather forecast in Napier should allow a complete T20I match despite these rain breaks. The current weather in Napier is predominantly cloudy with a massive 99% cloud cover.

Having said that, the rain probability only lies around 20%. It is worth mentioning that the rain probability remains the same for the next 2-3 hours. Therefore, if not for any unexpected elongated passage of showers, the match should restart at the McLean Park. However, one can’t rule out the possibility of a rain-curtailed match with Bangladesh beginning their innings (if overs are lost) once rain stops.
