R Ashwin birthday: Delhi Capitals, Sachin Tendulkar, Suresh Raina and others wish Ashwin on 34th birthday

R Ashwin birthday: The senior Indian spinner is celebrating his 34th birthday a handful of days before IPL 2020.

India and Delhi Capitals spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has turned 34 today. Known for his variations across formats, Ashwin started to receive plentiful heartfelt birthday wishes since midnight.

Currently in UAE for the 13th season of the Indian Premier League, Ashwin is all set to represent his fourth IPL franchise in Capitals. Having led Kings XI Punjab for a couple of years, Ashwin will now play under Shreyas Iyer at DC.

Having picked 125 wickets in 139 IPL appearances at an average of 26.48, an economy rate of 6.79 and a strike rate of 23.39, Ashwin is the fourth-highest wicket-taker among spinners in the IPL.

Ashwin, who last played white-ball cricket at the highest level during the tour of West Indies in 2017, remain an integral part of India’s Test squad. Since his Test debut in 2011, Ashwin is the second-highest wicket-taker in Tests with his 365 wickets coming at an average of 25.43, an economy rate of 2.84 and an economy rate of 53.6.

England’s Stuart Broad and Australia’s Nathan Lyon are tied at the first spot with 382 wickets each to their name. Having said that, what differentiates Ashwin (71) from Broad (102) and Lyon (93) is the number of Tests played in this period.

Ashwin’s biggest recognition till date came in 2016 when he was declared as both the ICC Test Player of the Year and the ICC Cricketer of the Year.
