Ryan Burl Twitter: Zimbabwean all-rounder looks for sponsor in moving social media post

Ryan Burl: The Zimbabwean all-rounder took to social media platforms looking about for a sponsor with his tattered pair of shoes.

Zimbabwe all-rounder Ryan Burl’s moving social media post has highlighted the dire situation of the sport in the country. The post sees Burl looking about for a sponsor with a tattered pair of shoes.

“Any chance we can get a sponsor so we don’t have to glue our shoes back after every series,” read the caption on Burl’s Instagram and Twitter post.

Burl, 27, is an active international cricketer who represented Zimbabwe as recent as a month ago when they hosted Pakistan three T20Is and a couple of Test matches.

Having played close to 50 matches across formats for his nation in the last four years, it is unbelievable how an international cricketer has had to plead for a sponsor for his equipment. In his 46-match T20 career, Burl has represented Chattogram Challengers on four occasions in the Bangladesh Premier League.

Burl’s post, which has gone viral since late last night, has once again laid emphasis on Zimbabwe Cricket’s significant downfall in the last 15 years or so. Once a strong team comprising of many tried and tested names, an administration failure has brought the sport to an unprecedented level in the country.

In 41 innings across formats at the highest level, Burl has scored 660 runs at an average of 20 and a strike rate of 85.60 including a couple of half-centuries. With the ball in hand, Burl’s 26 wickets in 36 international innings have come at an average of 28.15, an economy rate of 5.76 and a strike rate of 29.3.
