Shubman Gill has managed to garner plenty of limelight since Wednesday, when he became the youngest men’s batter and only the eighth in the World to have smashed an ODI double century, during the first match of the series against Sri Lanka.

Gill’s sublime innings comprised of 19 Fours and 9 Sixes, and it took mere 149 deliveries for him to pile on 208 runs. Had it not been for his lone standout knock during the entire Indian innings, the team total would have even failed to surpass the 300-run mark.
Also, with the kind of brutal hitting that was on display off the bat of Michael Bracewell during the latter half of the New Zealand chase, any lesser effort by Gill would have meant a certain loss for India during the first ODI.
Former star Indian allrounder Yuvraj Singh, as always, was in all praise of Shubman’s unbelievable knock. He also took personal pride and on behalf of his (Shubman’s) father as well congratulated him for reaching the rare landmark.
Shubman Gill and Yuvraj Singh relationship
Yuvraj Singh and Shubman Gill are not brothers by blood. However, Yuvraj is no less than an elder brother-like figure in Gill’s life.
The 23-year-old has from time-to-time emphasized on the role Yuvraj has played in his career ever since they shared the dressing room with each other a few years ago for the Punjab domestic team.
Even while wishing him on his 23rd birthday last year, Yuvraj shared an adorable video via his social media handle which further reflected the special bond that they share with each other.
During the COVID-19 lockdown period, Yuvraj had even worked on Gill’s batting technique for some good seven-eight months or so, and the former even made sure to praise him when he smashed his maiden ODI ton against Zimbabwe in August last year.
If this was not it, the 41-year-old even went on to predict last month that Gill is destined for greatness in the next ten years, and that he is likely to open the innings for India in this year’s ODI World Cup.
