A total of 240 cricketers (excluding reserves) will be representing 16 teams during ICC T20 World Cup 2022 slated to begin from tomorrow. First such tournament to be played in Australia, defending champions Australia wouldn’t have got a better opportunity to become the first team to win two consecutive titles.
Australia, who had won a maiden title less than a year ago, will be the second team to be defending a T20 World Cup after such a short duration. While T20 World Cup 2021 and 2022 are being played after roughly a one-year gap, the same tournaments in 2009 and 2010 were played after a mere nine-month gap.
In spite of the tournament being played after a small time interval, most of the teams have made quite a few changes to their squads primarily due to the difference in conditions between UAE and Australia. Readers must note that West Indies have made the maximum number of changes (12) to their squad between the two World Cups.
As far as the captains are concerned, the likes of Rohit Sharma, Nicholas Pooran, Jos Buttler, Scott Edwards, C P Rizwan and Craig Ervine will be leading for the first time in a T20 World Cup.
