"Very proud day for me and Shubmans dad": Yuvraj Singh can't believe Shubman Gill scoring 200 in One Day Cricket vs New Zealand

Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh couldn’t hide his excitement at the prospect of India batter Shubman Gill scoring a maiden double century in the ongoing first ODI against New Zealand in Hyderabad. Gill, whose forte lies in this format, did take his time to register a breakout season but this sure is one for him at a personal level.

Gill, who has become the joint second-fastest cricketer to complete 1,000 ODI runs, surpassed all other Indian cricketers in this list to become the eighth cricketer to register an ODI double century.

A knock that will be remembered for the years to come irrespective of how his career pans out from here, Gill was in an archetype sublime touch to amass 208 (159) at a strike rate of 139.59 with the help of 19 fours and nine sixes at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium today. In what is his third ODI century, his career-best performance has marked the eighth instance of him crossing the 50-run mark in 19 innings.

Always considered as a prodigy by the cricketing fraternity around the world, Gill found his biggest supporter in former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh. Having shared a common dressing room for Punjab, Yuvraj and Gill appeared to have formed a strong adorable bond with each other.

As a result, it wasn’t a surprise when Yuvraj exulted at the sight of Gill entering an eminent club on Wednesday. Taking to his social media platform Twitter account, Yuvraj used the words “incredible” and “unbelievable” on a day when he admitted to be proud of Gill just like his father Lakhwinder Singh and the whole country.

Although not in a way like Gill, even Yuvraj had earned accolades as a young international cricketer. Unfair to compare both due to their contrasting offerings as a player, there is no hiding to the fact that it would mean the world for the Indian cricket team and their fans if Gill manages to become a World Cup-winner like Yuvraj.
