Vitality T20 Blast: Joe Root outfoxes Rob Jones Lancashire vs Yorkshire match at Old Trafford

Joe Root outfoxes Rob Jones: England’s Test captain has been among the wickets of late in white-ball cricket.

During a North Group match for the ongoing season of the Vitality T20 Blast between Lancashire and Yorkshire in Manchester, Yorkshire’s Joe Root outfoxed Lancashire batsman Rob Jones to send him back to the pavilion.

It all happened on the fourth delivery of the 18th over when Jones’ attempt of stepping out against Root saw him getting completely beaten by the latter’s variation.

Root, who primary bowls off-breaks or bowls into a right-hand batsman, made the ball to turn away from Jones. With the batsman stepping out to play on the leg-side, he eventually played inside the line of a delivery which ended up leaving him.

In what was a regulation stumping chance for Jonathan Tattersall, he completed the formalities without much discomfort. Coming in to bat at No. 5 in the 16th over, Jones departed after scoring 8 (8) including a boundary.

Having dismissed David Warner (24) and Mitchell Marsh (2) in successive overs during the third ODI against Australia at the same venue yesterday, Root is continuing to increase his tally of wickets in white-ball cricket.

Currently not part of England’s T20I side, it wouldn’t be a bad ploy for Root to press his case as an all-rounder in the format. Having picked four wickets in three T20s in the tournament, Root further registered bowling figures of 4-0-25-2 tonight.

After Lancashire batsman Dane Vilas (0) won the toss and chose to bat, the hosts scored 167/6 in their allotted quota of 20 overs on the back of a 130-run partnership for the second wicket between Liam Livingstone (69) and Steven Croft (58).

In the second innings, Yorkshire are in control of the chase despite losing Dawid Malan (8) cheaply. Root, who is scoring at a strike rate of 200, is guiding his team towards its third victory of T20 Blast 2020.
