"Where is That Power Coming From": Rohit Sharma Amazed by Yashasvi Jaiswal's Six-Hitting Ability in IPL 2023

Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma (3) is greatly impressed by Rajasthan Royals opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal‘s form in the ongoing 16th edition of the Indian Premier League. Currently into his fourth IPL season, it is safe to say that IPL 2023 has already been Jaiswal’s breakthrough season in the biggest T20 tournament across the globe.

Highest run-scorer of the competition on the back of amassing 428 runs at an average of 47.56 and a strike rate of 159.70 including a century and three half-centuries thus far, it wouldn’t be wrong to foresee the left-handed batter donning the Indian jersey in the months to come. Furthermore, with a minimum of five matches remaining to be played, Jaiswal could also create a record-of-sorts for an uncapped batter.

Speaking to host broadcaster Star Sports Network during the post-match presentation, Sharma was accurate in his assessment of a significant improvement in Jaiswal’s six-hitting ability from last year.

“I watched him last year as well. He’s taken his game to another level this year. I was just asking him about ‘Where is that power coming from’? Because I didn’t see so many sixes [from him] last year. He was timing [them] so nicely. He said, ‘I have been spending a lot of time in the gym’,” Sharma told Star Sports in Mumbai.

Yashasvi Jaiswal Respond to Rohit Sharma

Although not directly as far as the public domain is concerned, it was in the same presentation ceremony that Jaiswal provided reasons for being able to hit more sixes this season.

“I think I keep myself mentally very strong. Secondly, I am working a lot on my fitness, dietary intake and discipline. My world outside of cricket is well-organized,” Jaiswal said after winning his third Player of the Match award this season.

Jaiswal, whose 18 sixes in the season see him at the sixth position on the list of most sixes in IPL 2023, tops a similar list with respect to fours for hitting as many as 56 boundaries till now. Speaking of his last two seasons, Jaiswal had hit 10 sixes in as many matches during both IPL 2022 and IPL 2021. The fact that his average from a six per match across those two seasons has increased to two sixes per match speaks highly of him changing for the better in this format.
