FACT CHECK: Has Rohit Sharma Been Ruled Out Of WTC Final Due To A Thumb Injury?

India captain Rohit Sharma sent a gargantuan injury scare back home after reports of him getting hit on the thumb went viral across social media platforms in the afternoon. Post partaking in the captains’ press conference on the eve of ICC World Test Championship 2021-2023 final against Australia, Sharma was receiving throwdowns in the nets when a ball hit his left thumb.

Sharma, who has unintentionally managed to find different ways to get ruled out of overseas Tests in the past, coping a blow less than 24 hours before the start of the match was unequivocally concerning for the Indian fans.

The 36-year old player immediately walked out off the nets only to receive medical attention right away. Sharma, whose affected thumb was taped, tried to resume batting at the time. Having said that, he soon changed his plan after being advised against batting by the medical team.

It is to be noted that Sharma didn’t bat in the nets as a precautionary measure ahead of an all-important final. Additionally, Indian fans need not worry as their skipper is out of danger with respect to any sort of injury. Therefore, he hasn’t been ruled out of the WTC final. Furthermore, the injury (if it can be called one) was never serious to an extent to put his participation in danger.

Sharma, who had scored a match-winning eighth Test century in his only Test at The Oval thus far, would be looking to contribute in a similar manner in what is going to be his first final match of an ICC (International Cricket Council) tournament as a captain. Slated to open the batting with Shubman Gill, the two excelling at the top of the order could work wonders for India.
