David De Gea on new contract

David De Gea on new contract: Manchester United goalkeeper has finally spoken on his contract situation at the club.

Manchester United failed to continue on their spirited performances in the Premier League in Europe as they slumped to a 1-0 defeat against Juventus this week.

Paolo Dybala scored the goal in the first half to give Juventus the lead, and Manchester United failed to make a comeback throughout the game. In the second half, United came close on occasions but the poor set of moves in the final third costed them the match.

With this loss, Manchester United are now five points behind Juventus. However, they remain at 2nd position as Valencia were forced to a 1-1 draw by Young Boys.

Manchester United returns to Premier League as they face Everton on Sunday. Mourinho, in the pre-match conference, stated that Jesse Lingard and Scott McTominay could return for the game. However, he was tight-lipped on De Gea’s contract situation.

Now, the Spanish goalkeeper has spoken.

David De Gea on new contract:

The Manchester United goalkeeper has insisted that his only focus lies on winning games for the side and bring the season back on track.

“You have to be focused on what’s important,” David De Gea told Sky Sports.

“What matters is the team and all of us being focused on what we need to focus on, which is winning games, rather than contracts or any topics that can be a distraction. What matters is focusing on football.

“You don’t have time to think about things that aren’t as important as football and the points that are at stake in the games that we have to win and do well in.”

The goalkeeper has also stated that he’s happy at the club and the fans.

“I’ve been at the club for eight seasons now. I’m very happy here. I always feel that warmth from the fans and everyone who works at the club,” said De Gea.

There have been reports that Juventus have targeted the Spanish goalkeeper. Mourinho, meanwhile, has insisted that it is very important in the interests of Manchester United to keep David De Gea.

“If the club wants to be better than it is and not worse, obviously it would be very important to keep David,” said Mourinho.

What next?

Manchester United will host Everton in the Premier League this weekend, where they would aim to return to winning ways. Jose Mourinho’s side has won only 1 game from last seven matches across all competitions.
