DC vs KXIP Man of the Match

DC vs KXIP Man of the Match: Delhi Capitals batsman was declared the ‘Man of the Match’ for his match-winning innings.

During the 37th match of the ongoing 12th season of the Indian Premier League between Delhi Capitals and Kings XI Punjab at Delhi, Delhi Capitals defeated Kings XI Punjab by 5 wickets to register their sixth IPL 2019 victory.

After Capitals captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and put in the visitors in to bat, Punjab ended up scoring 163/7 in their allotted quota of 20 overs. Opening batsman Chris Gayle was the pick of the batsmen for KXIP scoring 69 (37) with the help of six fours and five sixes.

With bowling figures of 4-0-40-3, DC leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane was their highest wicket-taker.

Chasing a 164-run target, Delhi got off to a brisk start. Despite losing opening batsman Prithvi Shaw (13) in the fourth over, Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer continued to pile on the agony against Punjab’s bowlers. The duo stitched a match-winning 92-run partnership for the second wicket to lay a solid foundation for the hosts.

While Dhawan (56) went back to the pavilion in the 14th over, Iyer seemed adamant to seal the chase for his team. Despite DC losing wickets during the business end of the match, their skipper held one end match before hitting the winning runs in the last over.

Registering his 12th IPL half-century, Iyer scored 58* (49) with the help of five fours and a six and was awarded the ‘Man of the Match’ for leading from the front.

“Really satisfying win after three home games. Losing them was really disappointing at the start but we recovered well. Got a good start from Shikhar today, it made it easier for the batsmen to follow,” Iyer was quoted as saying during the post-match presentation ceremony.
