Divock Origi goes down while holding the wrong leg after foul from Victor Lindelof

Divock Origi goes down while holding the wrong leg after foul from Victor Lindelof in the Premier League match between Manchester United and Liverpool.

Liverpool’s winning streak in the Premier League came to an end yesterday after drawing with Manchester United. However, Jurgen Klopp and his men felt betrayed by VAR. They felt wronged in its decision to award United a goal and yet disallow their own.

Liverpool’s goal was disallowed after VAR suggested that the striker had handled the ball. While Manchester United’s goal was allowed to stand; despite replays suggesting that Victor Lindelof had fouled Divock Origi just before Rashford found the back of the net.

The PGMOL (Professional Game Match Officials Limited) confirmed that while they spotted the contact on Origi, they did not deem it worthy for a foul.

“Firstly, the on-field referee didn’t think it was a foul and VAR checked/decided that it wasn’t a clear and obvious error to not award the foul,” the PGMOL told Sky Sports. “Secondly, VAR isn’t re-refereeing matches, there is contact but VAR was comfortable it wasn’t enough to disallow the goal.

Manchester United fans have however, spotted an irregularity in Origi’s reaction to the contact; One that seems to support the official’s decision to not warrant a foul.

Fans have pointed out that Origi was trying to oversell the contact. In doing so however, Origi ended up holding the wrong leg while writhing in pain; if he even felt it. Leicester fans too joined in the discussions claiming that Sadio Mane had done the same against them in their much-heated match.

Despite the draw, Liverpool are still in a very good position to win their maiden Premier League title. Manchester United on the other hand, can take solace from the their showing; despite being primed for a thrashing. Klopp’s quest for a victory at Old Trafford continues. And so does Solskjaer’s own chase for a win.
