DY Patil T20 Cup

DY Patil T20 Cup: Veteran Indian all-rounder seemed in pristine touch as he played an outstanding innings for Air India.

During the 14th match of the ongoing season of the DY Patil T20 Cup at Dr. D.Y. Patil Sports Stadium, Mumbai, veteran India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh played a lightening-fast innings to accumulate numerous eyeballs.

Playing for Air India, Yuvraj came in to bat at No. 4 with his team reeling at 12-2. The southpaw played with responsibility first up and accelerated during the business end of the innings. His two vital partnerships included a 51-run stand with former Goa and Himachal Pradesh batsman Paul Valthaty for the third wicket and an 88-run partnership with Mumbai batsman Sujit Nayak.

Having scored 80 (57), Yuvraj ensured that Air India post a handsome total (169-7) on the board.

Despite Yuvraj’s heroics, Air India ended up on the losing side as Mumbai Customs chased the target in the last over. Bowling a lone over, Yuvraj conceded 12 runs without taking any wicket.

Watch Yuvraj playing some of his trademark shots during his innings below:

Having last played at the highest level during India’s tour of West Indies in 2017, Yuvraj has slim chances of making it to the Indian team for ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. Although his fans might be of a contrasting opinion after his innings yesterday, the 37-year old cricketer’s recent run otherwise has been below par both by his standards and also by what is required to qualify for the Indian team.

In the five Ranji Trophy matches which he seemed to have picked and played this season, Yuvraj returned with scores of 24, 4, 9, 41, 8, 1 and 12. His 99 runs in seven innings came at a paltry average of 14.14. His performance in the the last season of the Indian Premier League was no different.

Having said that, Yuvraj playing such an innings should bring hopes for Punjab for he will be representing his state in the upcoming seasan of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy next month. Yuvraj will play for Mumbai Indians in the next season of the IPL.
