EL Clasico 2019 Date: Barcelona vs Real Madrid postponed, two new dates being proposed with the decision to be taken by the clubs and La Liga.

The El Clasico is one of the biggest fixtures in club football. This is the derby fans around the world desperately wait for. To see two of the biggest heavyweights in world football take on each other in a storied rivalry is a feeling one has to experience to believe.

However, the first leg of the Clasico has now been impacted by the political unrest at Catalonia. The Clasico was supposed to take place on the 26th of October. However, the event has now been postponed considering the situation.

The clubs had the option of playing the match at Santiago Bernabeu instead of the designated Camp Nou. However, both Real Madrid and Barcelona opposed the decision. Instead, they have chosen to play the game on a later date.

EL Clasico 2019 date, proposed options

The RFEF proposed that the game be played on Wednesday December 18th. However, the La Liga have suggested that the game be played on Saturday December 7th instead. Their reason being that an event at the scale of Clasico should be played on the weekend.

Barcelona and Real Madrid play Real Mallorca and Espanyol on December 7th. If the clubs are to face each other on the said date, they will also have to convince their opponents to switch their schedule and face them on a later date.

It had been hoped a decision could be announced on Friday – but this will not now happen until Monday, according to Spanish publication Marca . The Spanish Football Federation’s Competition Committee has given both clubs and La Liga until Monday to reach a decision.
