France and Iceland will go head to head at Stade de France tonight to book a place in the Semi Finals and where Germany await. This will be a really interesting game to watch as the hosts who will have majority of the support will be up against the surprise package of the tournament who knocked England out. France vs Iceland promises to be a great encounter.
Didier Deschamps France has been far from convincing so far in the tournament. They laboured to victories in their group stage games against Romania and Albania and were really given a scare in the last round by Ireland before Griezmann bailed them out. Deschamps has used several combinations so far and has still not found his best 11 , only Griezmann and Payet have performed to the standards that people expect. The France manager needs to get his team right as his selection will be key tonight given that he will be missing Adil Rami and N’Golo Kante through suspension.
Iceland on the other hand will look to create more history after they defeated England in the previous round. They have scored a goal in all of their games so far , the only other team to do so is Wales. Iceland have defied all expectations and they will rely on the duties of their star players, Swansea City’s Gylfi Sigurdsson and defender Ragnar Sigurdsson , both of whom have been fantastic in the tournament so far. The team will be bursting with confidence following their recent exploits and although the crowd may be against them , they really have a shot against Deschamps’s underperforming French side.
France have never actually lost to Iceland in 11 encounters and their last meeting came in May 2012 when France came from 2-0 down to win 3-2. This is the first ever quarter final in Iceland’s footballing history and the players will be determined to go a step further.
