Ex-Chelsea goalkeeper and 2014 hero Mark Schwarzer reveals how Blues can beat Liverpool

Chelsea will take on Liverpool in a significant Premier League clash at Anfield this weekend. Ex-Chelsea goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer has provided an insight to the game.

Maurizio Sarri’s side will turn up against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday in a bid to strengthen their top-4 claim and derail Liverpool’s Premier League campaign.

Liverpool are currently at the top of the table, albeit with a game ahead of Manchester City. However, Jurgen Klopp’s side can’t afford to drop points at this stage in the league. Man City have been relentless in the past few games, and with Guardiola’s side holding a game’s advantage, Liverpool needs to be at their best.

However, the horror of the past may haunt Liverpool as they enter Anfield on Sunday.

At a similar stage of the season in 2014, Liverpool, who were on course for their first-ever Premier League title, suffered a stunning 2-0 defeat to Chelsea, thanks to a Jose Mourinho masterclass.

Mark Schwarzer, who was the goalkeeper in the game, has now provided an insight into how the side defeated Chelsea, and how the current side can learn from the 2014 game.

Ex-Chelsea goalkeeper reveals how Chelsea can defeat Liverpool:

The ex-Blues goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer made many significant saves throughout the game, as he denied Liverpool a win.

Schwarzer revealed that the side was confident going into the game because the players trusted Mourinho.

“We were very confident in the tactics Jose Mourinho wanted us to employ,” Schwarzer said. The former goalkeeper also drew comparisons to the situations between 2014 and now, stating that the best way to beat Liverpool is to slow down the game.

“A lot of people weren’t happy with the time-wasting that went on, but coming up against Liverpool, especially the way they were playing that season, the best way to knock them off their game was to slow it down.

“”We knew they wouldn’t change the way they played, so if we contained them, and we got a goal-scoring chance, we’d take it.

“There are so many similarities to 2014 going into this game – this fixture has history and is very different to others.”
