Will Alex Albon drive for Red Bull in F1 next season, with Perez and Hulkenberg waiting in the wings?

Alex Albon drops light on his crash with Lewis Hamilton during the Austrian GP with him losing on the prospect of earning a podium.

Alex Albon faced a huge setback after Lewis Hamilton crashed into him during the Austrian GP race, making him lose on a podium position as he went drastically down in the order.

“I’m a bit fresh right now, so gotta be careful with what I say. Yeah, I mean, it is what it is. I really felt like we could have won that race. Of course, I think Mercedes had the outright pace today but the guys did a great job with strategy.”

“Honestly, when I did the pit-stop, I thought – where are we on the track- I didn’t really know what was going on. (However) It all played out.

“Basically, they were on the hard tires and the first five laps (after pitting) was when I was going to do the overtakes. I was confident, the car was feeling good at that stage of the race (but) that’s what it is.”

“This one, I wouldn’t say it hurts more. I felt Brazil (collision) was a bit more of a 50-50. (Here) I felt like I did the move already and I was kind of already focused on Bottas in front. It was so late, the contact.”

Albon, in the end, could not finish the race as he was forced out of the action after his car’s engine died, with him making a move back to his pit, Red Bull’s both cars didn’t end the race.

Lewis Hamilton faced a penalty

Hamilton faced a 5-second penalty in the race after crashing into Albon, the British driver also lost on the second place and ending up in the 4th position.

Hamilton later accepted his mistake while speaking to the media after the race, “Obviously I had a great pace to catch up with Valtteri and then a really unfortunate situation with Alex.”

“I can’t believe we came together again. It really felt like a racing incident. But either way, I’ll take whatever penalty they feel I deserve and move forward.” he said.
