Amidst Aston Martin Resurgence, Fernando Alonso Shows Empathy for Old Love at Home

Fernando Alonso had a magnificent return to the podium at Zandvoort last weekend when he finished behind Max Verstappen at the chaotic Dutch Grand Prix. As he arrived in Italy for the Italian Grand Prix this weekend, chances are he will try to repeat the feat at Monza with Aston Martin. Amidst all this, he also wished good luck to his former team Ferrari as per Press Racing, as he gears up to race in their backyard, reported La Sexta.

Alonso had a decent stint with the Italian team. Even though he arrived at the team to win the championship and came very close in 2010 and 2012, in the end, it was too little too late for him. The Spanish driver drove for the Maranello-based outfit between 2010 and 2014, and the majority of the Tifosi have fond memories of him.

Now, 10 years later, the 42-year-old sees his old team struggling to live up to its legendary name. Therefore, he wished Ferrari, along with Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc good luck ahead of the 2023 Italian GP.

Fernando Alonso wished luck to his old team

Fernando Alonso is driving for Aston Martin at the moment. However, that did not stop him from reliving his old days after travelling to Monza. This love enables him to wish the team from Maranello the best of luck ahead of their home race.

Talking about this, the Asturian said, “It’s a pleasure to always be here, even if I’m not at Ferrari. I hope we finally have a dry race and put on a good show for all of you. I also hope Ferrari does well.”

Admittedly, for a long time, Ferrari have failed to climb their way back to the top, despite multiple attempts. After showing promise once again in 2022, they failed to. However, it seems like Leclerc and Sainz know what they are lacking as a team.

Leclerc and Sainz know why Ferrari is failing

Leclerc and Sainz, the two Ferrari drivers know why the Italian team is struggling to make amends despite huge talks of improvements. The duo talked about the balance of the car which hindered their performance in the latest race in Zandvoort.

Leclerc struggled to find balance with the SF-23 and therefore crashed during Q3 on Saturday. Furthermore, Sainz also complained about the balance of the car in the post-qualification interview.

Nevertheless, Frederic Vasseur, the team principal of Scuderia Ferrari is hopeful of getting the team back into business. As he talked about working with both the drivers, he made sure the engineers back at Maranello and the drivers work in sync to bring the glory days back to Ferrari.
