Carlos Sainz Infuriates His Trainer as Latter Becomes Hostage in $524,815 Ferrari During the Dutch Grand Prix

Carlos Sainz recently became subject to his trainer’s wrath after the Ferrari driver ended up taking the latter hostage, that too in his $524,815 Ferrari, as per the latest revelation by Kym Illman. Admittedly, it was the same car that he drove to Zandvoort ahead of the qualification during the Dutch GP.

Ferrari provides its drivers with luxurious and top-end variants of their cars. They drive these cars to the tracks often to show up in style, and the car Sainz was driving was a Ferrari SF90 Stradale.

Most of the time the F1 stars drive alone and come to the race venue in their supercars. However, this time Sainz failed to realize that he was alone. Therefore, he took his trainer Rupert Manwaring hostage, unintentionally.

Kym Illman has recently opened up about Sainz’s incident on his YouTube channel. Illman, who has special access to the F1 paddock shared that it was Sainz who took the keys with him, leaving him inside.

Speaking on this, he said, “On Saturday, I was out of the front of the swipe gate, and I saw him roll up and photograph Carlos as he came in. And then once he got about 30 meters away from the car, the honk starts honking repeatedly.”

“Rupert’s looking a bit frustrated. Because Carlos had taken the key in with him into the paddock which meant that the car had to honk for some time until the key was found on Carlos and returned to Rupert,” he added.

Admittedly, this was not the only luxurious item mishandled by the 29-year-old driver. Most recently, the Spanish driver was a victim of robbery, with thieves trying to steal his expensive Richard Mille watch away, in Milan.

Much like his friends Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc, Sainz too, had to deal with robbers trying to steal his watch away. The Ferrari driver became the victim of a theft just hours after finishing P3 at the Italian GP.

The Ferrari driver went through this traumatic experience in front of a hotel in Milan. There, the robbers tried to steal his $631,000 worth of Richard Mille watch, but failed as Sainz chased them down. Local police arrested two suspects.

Carlos Sainz was able to retrieve the watch with the help of the locals, police, and his entourage. He later on took to X [formerly known as Twitter] to share his entire experience.
