Fact Check: Was Lewis Hamilton Labelled 8-Time F1 World Champion by LA Lakers?

Lewis Hamilton recently made his appearance at the Lakers vs Warriors game in the Lakers’ home arena sending fans into a frenzy. Fans were filled with joy as they spotted the Mercedes star and filled the internet with his pictures.

However, in doing so, some of the fans took the opportunity to post photos that showed Lewis Hamilton tagged as an 8-time world champion on the Lakers’ feed. While many fans believed it to be true, did the Lakers really describe Hamilton as an 8-time world champion?

Turns out it is a photoshopped picture and some F1 fans have just taken the opportunity to poke fun and reopen the wounds of the controversial 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Lewis Hamilton has been mistaken as 8x world champion multiple times

Ever since the controversial end of the 2021 championship season, Hamilton has been named 8-time world champion multiple times. Even Red Bull team principal Christian Horner who won the first Drivers’ title with Max Verstappen in the controversial finale accidentally claimed Hamilton as the winner of his record-breaking title.

Speaking after his terrific performance at the 2022 British GP, where he battled Hamilton for P5 in the early stages of the race, Lando Norris too took the opportunity to play with the feelings of Team Lewis Hamilton. Norris had said, “Look at this beautiful. Oh my God, I should be the eight times world champion [instead].”

Even Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc who was defending the champion against racism labelled him the 8x champion. Although, Leclerc immediately corrected himself.

F1 fans confuse the crowd with fake Lakers’ feed

Photos of Hamilton being labeled as the record-breaking F1 star has been circulating across the internet. It has confused a lot of fans as the incident is not a standalone event.

Although, those who have been circulating the image have been quite sly with their captions. One of the fans, Prudy, who shared the picture wrote, “If you know, you know.”

Replying to the tweet, when another fan pointed out that “Isn’t it photoshopped?”, Prudy jokingly replied that they don’t care.

Meanwhile, another fan, JWheels, took a dig at the Mercedes’ current trajectory.

Moreover, another fan took the matter to a different level by accusing Hamilton of pulling off publicity stunts.
