“Had a very good relationship with his father” – Bernie Ecclestone speculates on Mick Schumacher’s next team after Haas
“Had a very good relationship with his father” – Bernie Ecclestone has suggested two teams which Mick Schumacher could join after his stint with Haas.
Former F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone has advice for Mick Schumacher regarding his next destination in the sport. Schumacher Jr. is currently in his rookie F1 season with Haas, as part of a partnership with the Ferrari Driver Academy.
But Ecclestone believes he could have joined the more competitive Alfa Romeo instead, to team up with Kimi Raikkonen. This seems unlikely now, with the veteran expected to retire at the end of the season.
“I would have liked him to go to Alfa Romeo right from the start. There he would have had a fast, experienced team-mate in Kimi Räikkönen, who at the same time had a very good relationship with his father.”
Austria is over for now – time to spend some time at home and recharge. Next on the calendar is Silverstone, so I’ll make a pit stop at the @HaasF1Team factory. Looking forward to it🤩 #MSC47 pic.twitter.com/o7Dixg30mi

Mick Schumacher to jump ship from Ferrari to Red Bull?
Ecclestone certainly wants him to do so, as he wants him to have a more competitive teammate than Nikita Mazepin. This too seems unlikely, though, with the Italian team expected to retain both Pierre Gasly and fellow rookie Yuki Tsunoda.
“I could imagine AlphaTauri as Mick’s next team. They do a good job and with Franz Tost they have an experienced man who is very good with young talents.
“Mick doesn’t know where he really stands as a driver in his current team. He simply needs a better, more competitive car. Every driver wants a better car. He beats his team-mate, and that is the most important thing for every driver at first.
“However, that’s not saying too much with Mazepin. Mick needs a faster team-mate so he knows where he stands.”
