"He doesn't look like a 39-year-old"- Esteban Ocon insists Fernando Alonso is stronger than ever

“He doesn’t look like a 39-year-old”- Esteban Ocon claims that his partner Fernando Alonso has gained immense fitness before the season start.

Esteban Ocon will be partnering with Fernando Alonso in 2021 for Alpine, the latter being an old guard has been doubted by the experts for his age and the demands of Formula 1.

His return to F1 is after a two-year break, but Ocon has tipped for his success this season, as he says despite Alonso being old, he is super fit and driving better than ever.

“He doesn’t look like a 39-year-old, and he doesn’t drive like one,” Ocon said. “He will be ready, and he will be performing at the top level. No doubt, he will be strong, but I will do my best against him.”

This is also despite Alonso facing a major road accident during his cycling session in Switzerland, which required a 48-hour hospitalization in the hospital with jaw surgery.

How’s the preparation?

Alonso missed on Alpine’s virtual car release for 2021, as the French team cited that the Spaniard requires to prepare for the new season, as the halt in his training after the accident was decisive.

Alonso did question a few answers from his Q&A session, arranged by Alpine to compensate for his absence in the virtual presentation on Tuesday.

“To be 100% up to speed, it can take at least the first couple of races, but it is the same for everybody. I also had a small setback with a bike accident a few weeks ago, but luckily the preparation and my fitness will not be impacted, and I’m ready to go,” said Alonso during his Q&A.

Alpine is under new leadership with a rebranded name, as Cyril Abiteboul’s discharge from his responsibilities introduced a new era in the team ahead of the 2021 season.
