“I don’t know how good Perez is”- Verstappen on Sergio Perez’s Red Bull seat contention
“I don’t know how good Perez is”- Verstappen on Sergio Perez’s pursuit for 2nd Red Bull seat ahead of 2021 F1 season start.
Max Verstappen is the primary driver for Red Bull, but the team is yet to finalize his deputy, with the management still contemplating the extension of Alex Albon’s stay in the team.
On Monday, Helmut Marko did claim that any decision on Albon will be made before Christmas which gives hardly any time before the last set of seats in F1 are confirmed.
The biggest threat to Albon’s aspirations with Red Bull is Sergio Perez, who left Racing Point after the end of the 2020 season, with Racing point and soon to be Aston Martin chose to replace him with Ferrari’s outgoing Sebastian Vettel.
Speaking about his son potentially pairing up with Perez, Jos Verstappen has said that he is clueless about any proceedings within Red Bull’s hierarchy and also isn’t aware of Perez’s quality to make any fair judgements.
“No, I really don’t know. I haven’t heard anything yet. Otherwise, I would have known,” he told Ziggo Sport, as per the Planet F1. “Let’s wait and see where he stands in relation to Max and Albon next year. I don’t know how good Perez is.”
Though, Perez certainly displayed his portfolio where it mattered, as he grabbed an incredible win in the Sakhir Grand Prix and ending up the season at 4th with 125 points in his name.
Sergio Perez to adjust with Alex Albon
While Red Bull is so far being indecisive in making a decision, Ted Kravitz in his post-race notebook in Abu Dhabi boldly mentioned that Red Bull is soon going to make an announcement.
And according to him, they are going to sign up Perez, whereas Albon will still stick with the team and be a reserve driver or at best a co-driver to Perez.
