Max Verstappen has recently opened up on the team he could join after leaving Red Bull in the future. Regarded as his dream team, Verstappen could jump to Ferrari after his contract expires, but under only one condition, and that is only if he gets to stay on top.
Notably, the Dutchman’s wish to stay on top and Ferrari’s struggle to make the finest challengers isn’t going hand in hand, at least for the time being. Despite having a slight chance of improvement in 2022, the Italian team has failed to make a mark since the 2008 F1 season.
For a driver like the 25-year-old, who spent most of his initial racing days behind Mercedes, there’s hardly a chance he would want to move away from Red Bull if Ferrari can’t provide him with a prime car. At least not after what he is experiencing on the Austrian team.
Despite the fact that the Maranello-based team has been poor of late, that doesn’t take away the fact that they are the most dominant and successful team in the sport. With 16 constructors’ championships and 15 driver’s titles, the Prancing Horse is definitely a team that Verstappen fancies, and for challenging reasons.
Verstappen’s preferred destination is Ferrari
The Dutchman has recently talked about his move away from his current team after his contract expires in 2028. Even though he hasn’t confirmed it, but said it will depend on how competitive Red Bull will be from now and the 2028 F1 season.
Furthermore, when he was asked to reveal his dream team and the team he would want to switch to, the two-time world champion said as per MotorsportWeek, “I am often asked if I have a dream team. I know that Ferrari has a unique history in Formula 1.”

“It is a team that it would be fantastic to race for. However, I have always told myself that I just want to be in the fastest car,” conveyed the defending champion. All in all, the Dutchman wouldn’t want to be in a team that will not see him claiming the pole position.
However, there’s a catch to Verstappen jumping to Ferrari with Charles Leclerc still in the team. Given how good the former Toro Rosso driver can be for the team, putting him alongside the Monegasque can be a real gamble for the Prancing Horse higher-ups.
Leclerc vs Verstappen in Ferrari?
Leclerc has been a long-time star of the Italian team. With him waiting in the wings for a world title for quite some time now, Verstappen’s arrival on the team in the future might spark things off.
Admittedly, putting two arch-rivals in the same machinery might not be the brightest idea, as F1 has seen over and over again with Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost in McLaren or Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton in Mercedes.
Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc are easily considered two of the best driving talents in F1 in current generations. With both of them in equal machinery and fighting for supremacy, it’ll be interesting to see how Ferrari manages to deal with them.
