"I was a bit surprised"– Pierre Gasly not surprised with no action on Charles Leclerc

“I was a bit surprised”– Pierre Gasly is surprised with the lack of action against Charles Leclerc for crashing against him.

Pierre Gasly had a chance to bring in an impressive number of points for Alpha Tauri last Sunday, as he started from P6 on the grid, but was ousted with the damage he obtained after being hit by Charles Leclerc.

Four days after the incident, Gasly has expressed shock over no action made by FIA against Leclerc and cites how harmless Valtteri Bottas’ pitlane spin yet he was penalized.

“I must say I was a bit surprised at the time that there was no further investigation,” said Gasly. “Obviously it wasn’t done on purpose, it’s not something Charles deliberately did, but for sure it had quite a big consequence on my race.

“Especially after seeing Valtteri getting three grid [place] penalties for losing control of his car in the pit lane, but not really affecting anyone else’s race, this which obviously had an impact on my race, I must say I was a bit surprised.”

Though a penalty wouldn’t have mattered anyway

Gasly since last week has maintained that a penalty to Leclerc wouldn’t have mattered to him, since he was already out of the race, and anyway would have been a loss to his team.

“At the end of the day I just care about my own race and it would have not changed anything on that side. But just something we’re probably going to talk about with Michael.”

“The clear thing is it would not have changed my race,” he added. “I think the damage was already done. In the end, it doesn’t really matter to me.”

On a positive note, Alpha Tauri looked sharp at the Red Bull ring, and the next race is going to be there itself, so Gasly has a chance to redemption.
