“I’m really pleased with how far we’ve come”- Daniel Ricciardo pleased with Renault’s progress
“I’m really pleased with how far we’ve come”- Daniel Ricciardo pleased with Renault’s progress over the span of two years, while he departs.
Daniel Ricciardo in May announced that he will not be extending his stay in Renault and will transfer his services to McLaren, who longed for him since 2018.
However, Ricciardo had certain milestones to achieve in 2020 with Renault, which he managed to obtain after sealing two podiums this year with the team.
While exiting from the team, Ricciardo now recalls his time with the French constructors and also focused how his end in Renault at Abu Dhabi was a special moment.
“It was definitely a good race, a nice way to end it,” Ricciardo said. “We know Abu Dhabi as a Sunday venue, it’s not always the most exciting race. But I certainly felt I did what I had to do today.” as per the Autosport.
“The car was really strong on the hard tyre, went long, and I think I had the fastest lap in the bag on the second-last lap, but I actually went off in the last corner, so I really stretched it on the last lap.”
“It was a nice way to kind of do my last ever lap in the Renault. It was good to know it was a fast one, a good sign off.”
Fulfilled with Renault
While speaking about his exit from Renault, the Australian driver has claimed that he is fulfilled with his duty with Renault as his time comes to an end with the current team.
“I feel fulfilled, to be honest. I felt it coming into the track today, it was like, ‘oh yeah, this is it’. This year, although shortened, it was such a chaotic year, but actually a really strong one. I’m really pleased with how far we’ve come, both myself and the team.
“I think fifth in the drivers’ championship. Obviously, there’s no award for that, but it speaks for itself in the turnaround we’ve made this year.”
