“It was a hell of a ride!” – Mick Schumacher pleased with Formula 1 debut with Haas in Abu Dhabi FP1
“It was a hell of a ride!” – Mick Schumacher is pleased with his Formula 1 debut with Haas in the first practice session of Abu Dhabi GP.
F2 champion Mick Schumacher finally got a taste of F1 with Haas during FP2 of the Abu Dhabi GP. Mick has been confirmed as a driver for the American outfit – backed by Ferrari – next season. He was pleased with the session, calling it “really fun”.
“Everything went well and I’m really happy with how the session went. There were no major issues on either side, so I’m really, really happy. I prefer being quite direct with feedback even though I might not have as much experience in F1 cars as other people do.”
“It was a hell of a ride, it was really fun.”
I would say things went pretty smoothly today in FP1. I was getting used to the car and felt comfortable with every switch and then every switch change in the car. @HaasF1Team @insideFDA #F1 #AbuDhabiGP 🇦🇪 pic.twitter.com/xsrcTDUa40

Mick Schumacher to participate in the Young Drivers Test
The German will now get a taste of an F1 car in the Young Drivers Test at Abu Dhabi. He hopes to test how he fares in high-fuel runs and race starts, both crucial elements for success in F1. Schumacher will be joined by Nikita Mazepin, who will make his F1 debut next season in an all-rookie line-up for Haas.
“The Young Driver test is really going to be for me to work on certain things such as long runs which are very important. Hopefully on some starts and just really get used to the team and familiarise myself with the car. The high-fuel (during FP1) was quite different from everything I’ve done before.”
“Up until now I’ve only driven an F1 car on low-fuel so it was definitely an information and valuable time for me in the car to feel how much can I brake, and how much can I push still. And my practice start actually went really well for my first start in an F1 car, so happy with that.”
