“Obviously I’m not too old"- Sebastian Vettel says he still has time to compete for his 5th title

“Obviously, I’m not too old”- Sebastian Vettel sees a future in Formula 1 at this age and also views a possibility for his 5th title.

Sebastian Vettel had his own era of dominance in Formula 1 when he won four successive world titles with Red Bull, and just like any other era, his time also descended with the rise of Mercedes.

Vettel tried to rediscover his success with Ferrari but failed all this while, even though in 2019, Ferrari arguably had a superior power unit, but Mercedes persevered to win the title.

His end at Ferrari was a tough phase, as the Italian outfit announced his departure even before the start of his season. It was also rumoured that Vettel might take retirement or a sabbatical after it.

But in the end, Aston Martin offered him a place, and during the presentation of AMR21, Vettel claimed that he has time to aim for his fifth title in F1.

“Obviously, I’m not too old,” he said at the launch of Aston Martin’s new Formula 1 car last week, nodding towards two-times world champion Fernando Alonso’s impending return with Alpine. “I mean, there are now older drivers joining the grid, rather than younger drivers. You’ve got Mick [Schumacher] as well, so he brings some new blood.

Your car needs to be competitive.

Vettel then told that one needs a competitive car instead of the right age to be a champion. At the age of 36, Lewis Hamilton is easily ruling over the rest of the grid with a mighty Mercedes.

” [But] I don’t think it’s an age thing. I think it’s more a question of, do you have the car and the team around you? Obviously, Formula 1 has been like this for as long as I can remember and probably before.”

“It’s not a secret, obviously; in the last years, you needed to be in a Mercedes to really fight for the championship. I think we got close at times with Ferrari but never really close enough to have a say in the last two or three races.”
