"They have clearly made a step forward"- Pierre Gasly tips Ferrari success this year

“They have clearly made a step forward”- Pierre Gasly believes that Ferrari is hiding their calibre this year and are definite to succeed.

Pierre Gasly had an incredible test session in Bahrain; with him doing the most number of laps over the three days and Yuki Tsunoda also having a great outing, it seems Alpha Tauri is set to make a step ahead.

However, Pierre Gasly is feared of Ferrari, and he feels that they are sandbagging, as his best friend in F1 is Charles Leclerc, who apparently is not good at hiding stuff.

“I think Ferrari are hiding and not showing too much. Compared to last year, I think they are clearly better,” he said. “I discussed it with [Charles] Leclerc after the test, and we exchanged a couple of messages, talking but not too much, just trying to [laughing], have an idea!”

Ferrari did not spark any headlines during the pre-season testing, as they were neither too bad nor too good to trigger the press. So, maybe Gasly is right, or maybe Ferrari will be just decent this year.

We know how strong is Mercedes.

Gasly then turned on to the Mercedes camp, where the new power unit customers- McLaren also seems to continue their upward trajectory. On the other hand, the Frenchman is used to Mercedes dominating.

“I think we are close to each other. I don’t know if they are ahead of us or if we are slightly ahead. But they have clearly made a step forward. I think McLaren seem to be a powerful opponent and competitor at the moment, especially with a Mercedes engine.”

“They seem to have managed to put a strong package together. Then at the top, we will see what happens between Mercedes and Red Bull; it is tough to say and make any conclusion.”

“Mercedes had a pretty difficult test, with some reliability issues, but we know how strong they are as a team, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see them clearly on top.”
