Watch: Fernando Alonso's Resurfaced 'Bend It Like Beckham' Freekick Goal As He is Set to Hit Football Pitch Before Monaco GP

Formula 1 travels to Monaco this week for the Iconic Monaco Grand Prix. Aston Martin star Fernando Alonso would be looking to continue his scintillating form and gain another podium at Monaco. However, racing isn’t the only thing that Alonso seems to have mastered. A video of the Spaniard has emerged where he is seen scoring a brilliant ‘bend it like Beckham-esque’ free-kick goal at the Monaco charity football match.

The video is from 2016 when Alonso played the Monaco charity football game. The event is organized every year. However, it was halted from 2020 to 2021 due to the pandemic and was resumed in 2022. This week the event will see its 24th edition.

Fernando Alonso is a brilliant football player

The charity game is a precursor of the annual Monaco Grand Prix week. The Formula 1 driver traditionally participates in the Monaco GP Charity Football Match before the race weekend. The match is held at the Stade Louis II, the home ground for AS Monaco, who ply their trade in Ligue 1. The match has been held for a long time and is used to raise money for underprivileged children.

Fernando Alonso has been a regular part of the team of Formula 1 drivers that take part in the match. One of his best outings at a football match was in 2016 when he scored that brilliant Free Kick goal in the 10th minute of the game to give his team a 1-0 lead. He was instantly surrounded and congratulated by his teammates.

The Spaniard is an avid fan of football. He is a long-time fan of the Spanish club Real Madrid. The club named the two-time world champion an honorary member of Real Madrid in 2017. Alonso also had the opportunity to present the Ballon d’Or – football’s premier individual prize – in 2021.

The Monaco Football Match of 2023

As for the 2023 edition of the match, the F1 team will be led by home hero Charles Leclerc. They will go up against a team led by Tennis legend Novak Djokovic.

Leclerc will have his teammate Carlos Sainz join him. Fernando Alonso and Charles Leclerc are the other drivers who will participate in the game. The likes of Sebastian Vettel and Mick Schumacher have participated in the game before.
