Toto Wolff Claims Speaking About Christian Horner Is Waste of His Time in His Life

Christian Horner and Toto Wolff share a pretty hostile relationship. The two conspicuously don’t bond with each other well, and apart from professional respect, they don’t seem to think highly of each other.

The hostility peaked in 2021 when the two sides were closely battling for the title. In 2022, things mellowed down over the season as Mercedes fell in performative level. And it wasn’t challenging for the title.

But that hasn’t been eradicated; rather been passive because Wolff hasn’t changed his opinions on his arch-rival. And it would tick off again once Mercedes are up in arms against the current world champions.

Speaking about Christian Horner is a waste of time

The idea that the two still don’t think highly about each other is from the recent comments by the Mercedes boss. He recently said that speaking about Horner is a waste of his time.

“I am living in his head rent-free,” Wolff explained to The Times. “The guy is obsessed [with me]. Every second I spend talking about Horner is a waste of time in my life.”

Surely harsh words by Wolff, which could see a response by Horner whenever the opportunity arises. It’s been a long time since the two have exchanged words of spite.

Will Mercedes match Red Bull?

In 2022, Mercedes were way behind Red Bull in competition. But by the end of the last year, the Silver Arrows made personal improvements and even gave Ferrari a scare for the P2 in the standings.

They also had a high in 2022 when they won the Brazilian Grand Prix with George Russell. So, ahead of 2023, things looked positive for the Brackley-based team.

However, with only a month remaining in winter testing, Wolff has claimed that his team would find it difficult to close the gap against Red Bull in early 2023.

The Austrian wants to be realistic with his team’s hopes. Considering that Mercedes was approximately half a second behind Red Bull last year, they must overcome the deficit and then triumph against them.

Claiming that they have to at least run their improvements in real-time, beating Red Bull or Ferrari from day 1 would be a stretch to expect.
