"Vettel may spur him on"- Eddie Jordan compares Lance Stroll situation to Charles Leclerc

“Vettel may spur him on”- Eddie Jordan claims Lance Stroll is a driver capable of good things, and Sebastian Vettel’s presence might push him.

Aston Martin on Tuesday officially introduced Sebastian Vettel as their driver for 2021, as earlier in 2020 he was declared to partner Lance Stroll for the team.

And the former owner of Jordan, which eventually transformed into several franchises, before becoming Aston Martin present, Eddie Jordan opines that Vettel will elevate the performances of Stroll as he did with Charles Leclerc.

“For sure he’s got speed, and I think once a driver has the speed then anything is possible,” said Jordan to the Race.com. “I think he will up his game into something really, really strong, partly because it’s Aston Martin now, partly because he has something to prove against Vettel.”

Eddie Jordan is not the only one.

Like Jordan, Aston Martin’s team principal Otmar Szafneur has called Vettel’s arrival a crucial step towards the team’s growth and said the German would definitely improve Stroll.

“We also think Sebastian will bring out the best in Lance, with Lance pushing Sebastian hard in return, so we’re delighted with our 2021 line-up,” said Szafnauer. “It’s the ideal blend of experience, race-winning knowhow, and raw talent.”

Stroll hasn’t been rated highly by the critics in his career, as many term him inconsistent. Though, there have been moments he has been brilliant, winning three podiums in his full three years in Formula 1, out of which two came last year.

In 2020, Stroll had a chance to earn his first F1 victory, as he secured his first P1 start for the Turkish Grand Prix race, but a poor set of tyre management cost him his position and dragged him down in the table.
