The final day of pre-season testing in Bahrain ended on a dramatic note after Carlos Sainz and Kimi Raikkonen collided into Turn 10. Fortunately, both the Ferrari-powered cars avoided any significant damage. By the look of things – and the video below – both the current and ex-Ferrari drivers cannot wait to get the season started in Bahrain later this month.

Kimi Raikkonen impressive in pre-season testing
Both Carlos Sainz and Kimi Raikkonen had an impressive Sunday, finishing P3 and P4 in their Ferrari and Alfa Romeo respectively. Raikkonen, on his part, did a mammoth 165 laps. This is huge, more so considering the fact that he is the oldest on the grid. The last Ferrari champion’s total laps were more than Sainz’s and Charles Leclerc’s totals added together.
Kimi Raikkonen logged an impressive 166 laps today, that’s 898.4kms with a reliable and quick @alfaromeoracing car. Not bad for a 41-year-old! When he did his first test at Mugello in 2000 he only did 5-lap runs to save his neck…

The Finn spoke about his performance, and of Ferrari, sounding pleased. Going by how Alfa Romeo have fared in pre-season testing – they completed joint-most laps (2022), alongside AlphaTauri – Ferrari needs to be wary of their ‘sister’ team.
“I am sure they’ve made progress, and it’s better. But then you would expect that the other manufacturers have also improved. But yeah, comparing what we had last year, it is in a better position. We’ll have to wait to see where it is once the racing stars, but it’s definitely helpful for us.”
