“We have a shot at winning the race”– Christian Horner on Monaco Grand Prix
“We have a shot at winning the race”– Christian Horner believes that Red Bull can be decisive against Mercedes at Monaco.
Formula 1’s entourage is set to travel to Monaco for the fifth Grand Prix of the season, and Red Bull sees a brilliant prospect of winning this Grand Prix.
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner believes that he would need Sergio Perez at his best if they wish to take the maximum points from Monaco.
“We desperately need him to be in that gap so Mercedes don’t have the strategic options that they had,” said Red Bull team boss Christian Horner post-race in Spain.
“And so, I’m convinced that that will come for Checo, you know, as he finds more confidence, and [has more] time in the car.” he added. Like any other driver with a new team, Perez has not managed to settle, hence having their own share of struggles.
Presently, Perez is currently at the 6th position in the drivers’ standings with 32 points, 4 points behind his teammate Max Verstappen, who is at 80 points.
Red Bull believes they have a shot.
Horner genuinely believes that his team has a shot at winning this Grand Prix, even though Red Bull hasn’t been successful here since 2018, and Verstappen, among all, hasn’t been lucky here.
“I’m looking forward massively to Monaco, especially with this car, I think we have a shot at winning the race,” he asserted confidently after Barcelona. “So, yeah, hopefully we are able to be back strong.”
Monaco is among those circuits where qualifying is extremely crucial. The narrow lanes make it too difficult to overtake, so usually, a driver ends up at their start positions by the race end.
And Red Bull, when it comes to qualifying, is no less than Mercedes and can manage to take a first lane start, which makes them in contention for a win too.
