Despite much being made of USA going into the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 with a depleted outfit, seeing Utah Jazz’s Donovan Mitchell as the most prominent player from the NBA to be included in their side, the slew of NBA star performers lining up the World cup remains undeterred. With over 50 names from the marquee league partaking in the coveted World Cup, the tournament promises to dish our way an intriguing and enthralling brand of basketball across its life.
Back in Asia for the third time, the 18th edition of the World Cup is also the most expansive till date, throwing open its doors for a record 32 countries. Spilt up into groups of 8 with each group being crafted of 4 teams, the 16 day long tournament will regale us in 72 pulsating matches as either side looks to leave no stone unturned in its quest of walking away with the glistening trophy under its arms.
Out of these 32 countries, 17 of them will have atleast one NBA player lining up their squads with a total of 22 NBA teams being represented at the tournament. USA make an advent with the most number of NBA players while Montenegro have the least with just Nikola Vucevic while we have a Japanese NBA player make a foray into the fray of the World Cup for the first time ever in the form of Rui Hachimura.
