Reason behind Zidane’s exit: Zinedine Zidane resigned as manager of Real Madrid in the summer.

Zinedine Zidane left his job as the manager of Real Madrid merely five days after guiding the side to its third successive Champions League title.

The announcement shocked the footballing world and situation turned to worse for Real Madrid after Cristiano Ronaldo left the side a month later.

The club made a controversial appointment of Julen Lopetegui, but parted ways with him after a crushing 5-1 defeat to Barcelona in season’s first El Clasico. The club oversaw the worst goalless run in its history under the former Spanish national team manager.

And now, Real Madrid’s former club president Ramon Calderon has revealed the reason behind Zidane’s exit from Real Madrid.

Ramon Calderon has revealed the reason behind Zidane’s exit from Real Madrid. In a detailed piece highlighting Real Madrid’s troubles this season, Bleacher Report‘s  Richard Fitzpatrick quoted Calderon, who commented about Zidane’s differences with Perez.

The former club president revealed that the French manager wanted Cristiano Ronaldo to stay and Gareth Bale to be transferred.


However, Florentino Perez refused to agree to Zidane’s condition.

“He insisted on keeping Cristiano and transferring Bale,” Calderon said.

“The president did completely the opposite. Zidane also wanted to sign some players and transfer others—apart from Bale—but he didn’t get [his wishes], so he decided to leave. And he was right.”

Gareth Bale’s woes with injury have continued in the current season, having scored only four goals in 15 games. Cristiano Ronaldo, meanwhile, is enjoying his life at Turin, having become Juventus’ fastest player to reach 10 goals across all competitions earlier this season.

He’s currently the highest goalscorer in the Serie A with 14 goals.

The departure of both the stars from Real Madrid had a significant impact on the club’s performances. While Real Madrid are currently 5th in the La Liga, the side has only scored 26 goals in the league, a massive 24 goals behind arch-rivals Barcelona who are at the top of the table.
