Speaking to reporters after the win against Norwich City, Lampard said:
“The injury from the Europa League final has affected his pre-season and then he hurt himself against Man Utd.
“We are trying to get him through it but today was too painful.
“The international break will be great for him to get the injury right.
“It would be great for everybody [if Kante stays] because he’s been playing game after game after game.”
N’Golo Kante played the Europa Final against Arsenal through injury after taking an injection to the knee. As a result, the midfielder found himself rehabbing for much of their pre-season. He did not start in the match against Manchester United in their season opener but came from the bench later in the match.
The Frenchman injured his ankle in the game against United but braved the pain to play for 120 minutes against Liverpool in the UEFA Super Cup. His effort in that match earned him the praise of Frank Lampard.
He played against Leicester in their first home match. However, finally broke down ahead of the Norwich game and had to skip the Premier League encounter altogether.
France will take on Andorra and Albania in the Euro 2020 qualifiers during the international break. Kante was an integral component of the 2018 world cup winning French side. However, with much more important games coming later, both at the club and national level, Deschamps may just pay heed to Lampard’s request.
