Hogwarts Legacy more than doubles its sales targets already

The success of Hogwarts Legacy was never in question following its launch in February 2023. However, its true extent has now been revealed thanks to a LinkedIn update by a Warner Bros. Entertainment employee. The update states that the game achieved 256% of its target, selling way more units than expected. Additionally, the title also broke the Twitch record for the most concurrently watched single-player game. Here are all the details.

Warner Bros. employee reveals Hogwarts Legacy achieved 256% of its sales target

The finding was thanks to a LinkedIn post by Warner Bros. Entertainment Senior Global Brand Manager, Arien Darby. His profile states that he was the Brand Marketing Lead for Hogwarts Legacy, working with developer Portkey Games in the process. The post states:

  • Hogwarts Legacy (2023): Achieved 256% to plan sell-thru at launch and exceeded 12M units in sales in first two weeks earning $850M+, secured additional 1.8B impressions through a WBD gaming 1st of its kind Fusion program, and broke all-time Twitch record for most peak concurrent viewers ever for a single player game with 1.3M views.

The revelation further affirms how well the Harry Potter spinoff is doing. This comes after a monstrous launch month where the game secured 12 million sales in its first two weeks alone. Sales charts also confirmed that Legacy overtook Elden Ring in lifetime sales in just one month. Earlier last month, developer Portkey Games also confirmed a few key playtime stats on Twitter:

  • 406 Million hours played
  • 674 Million magical plants grown
  • 405 Million potions brewed
  • 2.25 Billion Dark Wizards defeated

These sales and playtime figures are expected to balloon even further as the last-gen release looms. Currently, Hogwarts Legacy is only available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X. The PS4 and Xbox One port will be out in a few weeks on May 5, 2023. Nintendo Switch players will get access to the game come July 25, 2023.
