Wyndham Clark found water for the first time in the 2024 Players. The reigning US Open champion, who was jointly leading the table, shot a mischievous shot on the infamous 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass. However, the ball could travel only 103 yards missing the green by merely 20 yards. After that, in his second attempt, he found the green and followed it with a bogey. This led him to lose his top spot to Xander Schauffele.
But why does his shot at 17th into the water mean that he could win the cup on Sunday? Well, that’s because Clark was not really bothered about the bogey he shot on the infamous hole. After all, it was a good bogey. Since on his second try, he got his ball just seven feet off the hole, he has now figured out what to do on Sunday. Also, when he won the US Open, he shot a bogey on the 17th hole in the third round. Coincidence?

“The Putt That Meant It All” – Wyndham Clark Has No Regret Finding Water At 17th In The 2024 Players
After completing his third round at TPC Sawgrass, the 30-year-old American spoke to the media and expressed his feelings regarding the bogey on the 17th hole. Despite using the sand wedge, he found water on the most typical golf hole. Although he did not blame his caddie for this neither stated that he had a lack of focus. He felt that it was merely a poor swing and could happen to anyone.
While speaking on his unlucky shot at the 17th hole of the third round in the 2024 Players, Wyndham Clark said,
“Yeah, it’s massive. It’s unfortunate on a hole that’s so iconic and has a bunch of trouble to have kind of your worst swing of the day. But yeah, I followed it with a great swing and a great putt. I’m in the final group tomorrow, which is huge.”
Wyndham Clark added, “I’m hoping that’s a huge point in the tournament and we look back after tomorrow and look at that hole and say, ‘hey, that was maybe the shot and the putt that meant it all”
Wyndham Clark is just one stroke behind Xander Schauffele before the final round of the 2024 Players. He has a 16 under-par score and will tee off at 1:40 p.m. ET at TPC Sawgrass. It remains to be seen if his prediction of winning the 2024 Players on Sunday comes true or not.
