Heroic ends 2022 with #1 CS:GO team ranking on HLTV

With the 2022 CS:GO season firmly in the past, it’s time to look back at the best and worst of the year. One of the highlights of 2022 was Danish squad Heroic’s rise to fame. Dethroning Astralis as the best Danish team, Heroic has managed to topple giants last year. With a couple title wins and a major final appearance, Cadian and co. look primed to take 2023 by storm. Here’s a recap of what the squad achieved in 2022, the roster changes made in the year, and the challenges faced to make it to #1.

Although far from dominant, a consistent Heroic ends 2022 with a #1 CS:GO team ranking

Starting off the year, Heroic looked strong under Cadian’s leadership. Taking out major contenders from competitions, Heroic was always a team that was taken seriously. However, the squad was never able to breakthrough the playoffs and actually win a title in the first half of 2022.

By June 2022, it was evident that the team needed to make a change and Ismail ‘refrezh’ Ali was on the chopping block. Jakob ‘jabbi’ Nygaard was brought in for that extra firepower that the team needed. What followed was a bunch of playoff appearances for the squad. Tantalizingly close to their first win of the year, the squad broke their drought with a win at the Pinnacle Championship Cup.

Eventually, the squad built up steam and found themselves at the IEM Rio Major final. Unfortunately, the squad fell at the last hurdle and didn’t manage to lift the trophy. Despite the heartbreaking loss, the team bounced back almost immediately, winning the next tournament they played.

All their efforts came to a head at the Blast Premier Fall Final. Winning in front of their home crowd at Copenhagen, Heroic lifted their second trophy of the year. However, the good times didn’t last as the last tournament of the year ended in disappointment.

Despite having a strong stand-in in k0nfig, Heroic had an abysmal final tournament. Crashing out of the Blast World Final, Heroic still managed to hold on to their #1 ranking and look primed for the next season.
