A shield can help block attacks and is crucial for use in PvP. Even a simple shield can help you out a ton in your defense. That is why we will make a standard shield in this article since every other one is just a variant of the standard ones. For this recipe, you will need the following:
- Wooden Logs
- Iron Ore
- A Furnace
- Coal or Lava as fuel
3 Simple Steps to Make a Shield in Minecraft
Step 1 – Making Some Prerequisites
First, chop wood and collect wood blocks. After you have the wood blocks, open the inventory, place the blocks in any box on the Crafting GUI and make logs. Find cobblestone blocks in caves/mines for the furnace. You can learn how to make a furnace in the article below.

Step 2 – Gathering Coal and Iron Ore
Go to the mines/caves and look up Iron Ore. They should be grey blocks with bronze-colored protrusions. Mine them; you will need just one, but get as much as you want. Coal will have black-colored protrusions. They are found below the surface in caves. Bring the coal and iron ore to the furnace, and use them to make Iron Ore. Now for the last step.
Step 3 – Making the Shield in Minecraft
Open the crafting table, place the wooden logs in a Y arrangement, and fill the middle row with Iron Ore. Craft it, and you have a shield. Put the shield in your inventory.
There are many ways in which you can customize your shields as well. You can also make a diamond shield. You can also decorate the shields with banners if you like.
