IPL 2017 Fantasy Guide: Fantasy Tips for Delhi Daredevils vs Mumbai Indians

Two cities that have since time immemorial tried to stamp their authority over the other take on each other at the Feroz Shah Kotla tonight. Vada Pav or Rajma Chhole Bhature, Bombay Chat or Delhi Chat, Gateway of India or India Gate;  pick your side, wear you colours and tune into this colossal encounter.

There is no better feeling than proving the world wrong. When you invest in young talent, and shoulder them with too many responsibilities, the world is at your throat, questioning your judgement, questioning the lack of ‘balance’ in approach. But when that young talent repays your faith in the best way possible, the world is quick to acknowledge the ‘vision’ of investing in young talent.

Rahul Dravid has dedicated his life after cricket in working with young individuals in the Indian domestic circuit, nurturing them and preparing them for that leap of faith into the international circuit.

Samson, Nair, Pant and Iyer have been bestowed with so much responsibility and it is only fair(to Dravid) that they have finally come good in a big way. With another few home games lined up, they are only going to get better.

Mumbai Indians sit pretty at the top of the table and have all bases covered until now, except the fact that Jos Buttler will not be available for the playoffs and hence they should consider giving Lendl Simmons a run before the playoffs, just to make sure he has warmed up well for the business end. They have also been very rigid with Parthiv’s selection, even though he hasn’t quite provided the right impetus at the top of the order. Ambati Rayudu could be drafted in but knowing Mumbai, they’ll stick to the winning combination, no matter what.

Let’s get to business now!

Now, I already have Rishabh Pant and Amit Mishra in my side for this game.

With Morris being left out in the last game and DD not playing their next game for sometime now, it wouldn’t be very wise to get in any Delhi player(as I already have Pant and Mishra in my side).

Mumbai play a game every 3rd day, and hence you need to draft in at least two Mumbai players into your squad.

Mitch McCleneghan, Jos Buttler, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah are the players in my consideration set, but due to the paucity of transfers, I’ll be getting in only two of them into my side.

I am tempted to go with with both the Indian players, as it’ll free up my overseas spots for the games to come, but there in more to it.

Mitch McCleneghan has been chipping away with wickets but it has had more to do with the sluggish nature of the pitches that he has operated on. With the Kotla dishing out a batting paradise last time round, combined with its short boundaries, I don’t think McCleneghan can rely on his half trackers to fetch him wickets this time round. Bumrah is a better death bowler than McCleneghan and he is slowly finding his groove in the tournament. I’ll go with Bumrah over Mitch, purely on the basis of the skill that these two bowlers possess.

Now, this is the big one, Jos Buttler or Rohit Sharma? While there is no proper way to figure out who would go big today, I can only give a few pointers that you could consider to make your decision.

Ideally it is always better to go in with an opening batsman, than opting for a number 4, but when you are up against a superlative bowling attack, that has the ammunition to run through your top order, you are always better off going for the number 4. Also, Nadeem could be used up to to unsettle Buttler and hence I would suggest getting Rohit in.

I won’t be making any other transfers for this game.

For the uncapped player, I’ll be getting in Krunal Pandya into my side, hoping that he is fit.

Captain: Jasprit Bumrah(if Mumbai bowl first)/Rishab Pant(if DD bowl first)

Now, I already have Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson and Amit Mishra in my team for this game.

As RPS don’t play any game for sometime, you can afford to transfer out their players for this game.

Jasprit Bumrah and Rohit Sharma will be my first picks for this game, as Mumbai play a game every 3rd day until the end of the group stages, and I’ll be able to carry them all along.

Also, I have already given my reasons for picking Sharma over Buttler and Bumrah over Mitch in the IPL Fantasy League section.

Now, if you want to get in 3 Mumbai players in Mitch McClenghan would be the next best bet, as Jos Buttler could go out of favour in the last 2 matches, as Mumbai would want to give Lendl Simmons a decent run before the knockout stages.

But my team combination does not allow me to get in Mitch McClenghan(or even Buttler for that matter), thus I opt for Nitish Rana/Krunal Pandya. There are a few question marks with regards to Krunal’s fitness, but if he is fit, I would give preference to him over Rana.

Batting Star: Rishabh Pant

Bowling Star: Jasprit Bumrah
