The Pune side was jolted with an injury setback when their star allrounder Mitchell Marsh returned back to Australia from the test series with a shoulder injury. Extensive scans were carried out and later it was revealed that Marsh wouldn’t be able to participate in the IPL. Rising Pune Supergiants have gone ahead and picked Imran Tahir as Marsh’s replacement, a shrewd move that could probably change RPSGs fortunes this season.

Imran Tahir had made himself available for the entirety of IPL 2017 but got not takers in the auction, despite being the number 1 T20 bowler in the world. Flabbergasting as it may sound, none of the teams thought that they ageing bowler could provide their team with the required oomph!

“Australia and Rising Pune Supergiant all-rounder Mitchell Marsh was ruled out of the 10th edition of the IPL owing to a shoulder injury. As Marsh’s replacement, the franchise have roped in South Africa leg-spinner Imran Tahir into the squad,” the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said in a statement.

“Tahir, who was unsold in the 2017 IPL Player Auction is from the registered available player pool list (RAPP list). As per the player regulations, RPS is allowed the replacement player from the RAPP list.”

“Tahir had earlier represented Delhi Daredevils in VIVO IPL 2016,” the BCCI added.

With the leg spinner joining the Pune ranks, they now have a very adept death bowler in their side, who can win them games with his trickery and deceit. With so many all rounders in their side, Marsh was anyway a surplus, and thus RPSG seem to be in abetter shape now with Tahir’s addition. He can contain during the middle overs and turns absolutely lethal during the death when the batsmen are trying to go after him.

The IPL starts from the 5th of April.
