IPL 2019 Auction timings

IPL 2019 Auction timings: It is all in likeliness that the auctions will be a day-night affair this time round.

With the 12th season of the IPL (Indian Premier League) reportedly all set to start in March, the auction ahead of the same will happen for the first time outside of Bengaluru on December 18 at Jaipur.

During the IPL trade window which finished earlier this month, all eight IPL franchises had made changes to their squads. While the non-performing teams were the ones to release majority of their players, the Top teams seemed to have made it a point to stick to their core group of players.

Throughout these years, the IPL auction used to start at around 9 in the morning. That being said, even that is set to be changed this year. If reports in the Mumbai Mirror are to be believed, the one-day auction is all in likeliness of starting at 3 PM and continuing till 9:30 PM.

Happening on a week day, conducting it as a day-night affair has rich chances of it attracting more viewership across TV and the digital platform.

The fact that December 18 will also be the fifth day of India’s second Test match against Australia, it doesn’t make much sense to conduct it in the morning when people will be more attracted towards the match.

“It does not make sense to have the auction running parallel to the Test match which has potential to go down the wire and produce a thrilling finish,” a source close to BCCI was quoted.

With the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 commencing from the last week of May, some international players might not be present throughout the cash-rich event for their respective boards will want to be present in the camps conducted by them.
