Is Sanju Samson playing today's 1st T20I vs Bangladesh in Delhi?

Is Sanju Samson playing today’s 1st T20I: The top-order batsman has been included in the 15-man squad after four years.

During the first T20I of Bangladesh’s tour of India in Delhi, Bangladesh captain Mahmudullah has won the toss and chose to field in the hope of restricting India to a below par total which they can chase in the second innings.

“We are gonna bowl first. The wicket looks good, so we need to restrict them to as low as we can. It’s a good opportunity for other guys in the team to step up in Shakib [al Hasan] and Tamim’s [Iqbal] absence. We are going in with four bowlers and one all-rounder. Three quicks and one leg spinner. We have a debutant in Mohammad Naim,” Mahmudullah was quoted as saying during the toss.

India captain Rohit Sharma disclosed that even the hosts were looking to bowl first due to the dew factor and India’s stellar record while chasing. However, Sharma accepted the challenge to bat first at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

“We would have bowled first as well considering the dew factor here. Our record while chasing is good as well. Nevertheless, we want to challenge ourselves, that has been a concern over the years. Batting first and defending it later.

“The pitch looks slightly sticky, we need to assess and see what will be a fighting score. We have to win every game, we have to look forward to build a team,” Sharma said.

India have made three changes from the team which played the third T20I against South Africa in Bengaluru. While all-rounder Shivam Dube’s debut was announced before the toss, India have also included spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and pacer Khaleel Ahmed.

The trio of all-rounders Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja and pacer Navdeep Saini aren’t part of the 15-member squad for this series.

With batsman Lokesh Rahul slated to bat at No. 3, Kerala and Rajasthan Royals batsman Sanju Samson will have to wait for this turn in this series.
