The England Cricket Board (ECB) have finally announced their 15-men World Cup squad, and Jofra Archer has finally made the cut. The tall all-rounder’s selection had been a point of contention for quite some time.
He had impressed one and all, particularly with his death-bowling abilities and onslaught abilities with the bat as well. Archer proved his mettle during his stint with the two T20 franchise- Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League (BBL). He is also a great asset for his English County side, Sussex Cricket.
Jofra Archer had not been included in the initial preliminary squad announced by England last month. But his performances in the recent past made it difficult for ECB to ignore.
With Twitter congratulating the tall all-rounder, his IPL franchise, Rajasthan Royals also took a step forward to do the formalities. This is where the funny Twitter banter started.
What was the Twitter banter all about?
After his inclusion news in the English squad, the Rajasthan Royals (RR) posted a 5-second GIF video, where Archer’s jersey switches from English colours to RR colours. The caption above it was: “HE’S IN!!!! Our pace machine is heading to the @icc #CWC19!”.
This is where the banter started to take shape. Just minutes after the tweet, Sussex Cricket (his County team) replied to the RR post by commenting- ‘Your’ pace machine?.
To this his BBL franchise, Hobart Hurricanes commented with a laughing emoji, apparently on RR’s initial post.
It was now time for Jofra Archer to step in. He surely found it funny like everyone else and replied, “Play nicely guys”, with an emoji expressing disappointment at the end.
But this was not the end. Sessex Cricket now came up with the 3 famous characters from the famous comedy series, ‘FRIENDS’, where the characters are seen donning the T-Shirts with each of the 3 teams’ emblem printed on them.
The RR now in response, took the friendly gesture forward, and posted a pic featuring the famous 4 performers of the band ‘Beatles’, wearing their suits with emblems of RR, Hobart Hurricanes, Sussex Cricket, and the English Cricket Board (ECB) placed in front of the 4 performers.
The exchange of tweets would certainly be a moment to cherish for Jofra Archer.
