Johnny Gargano: NXT Champion Reportedly Dealing With a Bad Knee | WWE News

Johnny Gargano: NXT Champion Reportedly Dealing With a Bad Knee. Hasn’t competed in a match for almost a month now.

Johnny Gargano finally lived up to his moniker ‘Mr. NXT’ by beating Adam Cole at TakeOver: New York during WrestleMania 35 weekend to become the NXT Champion. He is set to defend his title against Cole in The main event of TakeOver: XXV at Bridgeport, Connecticut on June 1st.

However, it seems that Mr. Nxt has reportedly suffered an injury. Gargano last wrestled a match during the most recent set of NXT tapings. He took part in a tag team match which was taped around a month ago.

He hasn’t worked any Live Events since and is said to learning the trades of being a backstage producer instead.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter:

Johnny Wrestling’ has been dealing with a knee injury, but it’s not thought to be bad enough to put his main event match with Cole next Saturday in jeopardy.

Hopefully Johnny Gargano fully recovers and goes all out against Cole to put on a show that tears the house down.

Gargano was originally supposed to face Ciampa at TakeOver: New York and go over the then NXT Champion. However, Ciampa had to relinquish the title to undergo a neck surgery.

The two have had a storied rivalry; going from tag team champions to title rivals. Their feud was supposed to culminate at the TakeOver before Mania but Ciampa’s body gave out.

Once Ciampa recovers, it is likely that he will be moved to the main roster considering there is nothing left to achieve in NXT for him. Gargano who was uncharacteristically paired with Ciampa during their Mini-Run at the main roster could also go the same route. Perhaps even earlier than his friend turned foe following the TakeOver. The Mr. NXT though, still early in his run as a champ, could stay a little longer defending that title on Wednesday nights.

This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all.
