Jonny Bairstow sledges Matthew Wade: The English wicket-keeper was in the Australian batsman’s ears on Day 4 at The Oval.

During the fourth day of the fifth Test of the ongoing 2019 Ashes series between England and Australia at The Oval, England wicket-keeper batsman Jonny Bairstow was heard sledging Australia batsman Matthew Wade on the stump mic.

It all happened exactly when Wade came in to bat at No. 5 in the 17th over. Wade, who himself was very vocal against the English batsmen in this match, received the same treatment upon his turn to bat. Right before he faced a ball, Bairstow was heard saying “G’wan Leachy [Jack Leach], let’s have the shit-stirrer here”.

Having been there and done that yesterday when England were batting, Wade didn’t reply verbally to the English cricketer. However, he made his bat do the talking by hitting a four off a slog sweep on the second ball that he faced.

Chasing a 399-run target, Wade single-handedly carried the Australian hopes of winning the Test series. With star batsman Steve Smith getting out on 23 (53), Wade took the onus of batting at a higher position by scoring his fourth Test hundred.

In an innings which saw the 31-year old cricketer batting at a brisk rate, he was also involved in an intriguing battle with England fast bowler and Hobart Hurricanes teammate Jofra Archer.
